About Credit Card Authentication Services (3D Secure)

Effective April 2025, all e-commerce sites that accept credit card payments are required to implement the “3D Secure 2.0” identity verification service.

If the identity verification process is not completed, it may result in a payment error. We apologize for the inconvenience, but we ask that you please review the information below and take the appropriate action based on your situation.

・What is the credit card authentication service (3D Secure)?

“3D Secure” on e-SCOTT is an identity verification service provided by Sony Payment Services for online payments. It is a security measure designed to prevent unauthorized credit card use and primarily supports “EMV 3D Secure (3D Secure 2.0).”
The main features and functions provided by e-SCOTT’s 3D Secure are as follows.
Support for 3D Secure 2.0 (EMV 3D Secure)
Unlike traditional methods (such as entering a static password), this system analyzes data—including the cardholder’s device information and purchase history—in real time to assess the risk of fraudulent use.
  • : For transactions deemed low-risk, the additional password entry step is skipped, allowing buyers to complete their purchases smoothly.
  • One-Time Passwords, etc. : Only if the transaction is deemed high-risk will you be required to verify your identity using a one-time password or similar method on the credit card issuer’s website.
Stripe’s 3D Secure (3DS) is a mechanism for verifying a user’s identity during online transactions. In addition to the standard process of entering card information, it prevents fraudulent use by requiring a one-time password issued by the card issuer or app authentication.

This is a system that verifies your identity by having you enter the “authentication password” you set up with your credit card company when you register your credit card as a payment method.

For credit cards with identity verification enabled, you will be redirected to a password verification screen during registration or payment. You can use your credit card by entering your “identity verification password” or “ID.”
*Please rest assured that the password you enter is not shared with us; it is sent directly to the credit card company.

[Possible Causes of Errors]

1. You have entered the password incorrectly multiple times
・If you enter the password for the identity verification service incorrectly multiple times, you will be unable to use the service again for a certain period of time.
・Please wait a while and try again later.
*We are unable to provide information on when re-authentication will be available.

2. The credit card information you entered is incorrect
・Errors may occur due to incorrect entry of the security code or expiration date. Please double-check your entries.

What to Do If Authentication Fails

■ If the Identity Verification Service Does Not Complete
・If a payment error occurs during the identity verification process, an error screen will appear on your PC or smartphone.
・If this screen appears, the following causes are possible; please check with your credit card company.

■ If an error occurs multiple times

We apologize for the inconvenience, but please try using a different payment method (convenience store, e-money, bank transfer, Amazon Pay, or PayPay).

Authentication Methods (Password, One-Time Pass, etc.)

■ About 3D Secure Authentication Methods
・With 3D Secure (identity verification service), we use the following methods to verify your identity.

1. Password Authentication
・Enter the “authentication password” you set with your credit card company in advance to verify your identity.
・Your password is not shared with us; it is sent directly to the credit card company, so it is secure.

2. One-Time Password (OTP) Authentication
・Some credit card companies require users to receive a one-time password via SMS or a dedicated app and enter it to authenticate when logging in or making a payment.
・The password you receive is valid only for a limited time, so you must use it promptly.

■ Important Notes
